POSTPONED: Lunch & Learn: William Bartlet, Esq. - A Man of Iron Frame & Iron Nerve

POSTPONED: Bring your bag lunch and join historians and authors Marge & Skip Motes as they speak about their research for a new volume on the life of Newburyport’s William Bartlet. Bartlet was a Newbury, sixth generation shoemaker born in 1748.

Following his apprenticeship, he rose rapidly, no longer a shoemaker, but an enterprising merchant trading molasses and sugar in the West Indies. By age 38, he was the wealthiest resident in the new town of Newburyport.

Skip will discuss Bartlet’s early maritime career and the history of the fine Georgian home he had built on Federal Street in 1778.
